Web 2.0
At the seminar on May 22 we had an opportunity to 'have a conversation' with several people that came out to learn more about Web 2.0 and what it means for their businesses. We had a diverse group of people attending and we received some great feedback.
It was clear that lots of people are aware that the new Internet hold opportunties for them but it seems a bit overwhelming at first. The term Web 2.0 is also a term that is so widely used that is has lost some of its meaning.
A simple definition of Web 2.0 is the collection of second-generation Internet-based services - such as social networking sites, wikis, communication tools, and folksonomies - that let people collaborate and share information online in ways previously unavailable. (source Wikipedia)
One of the participants described the term Web 2.0 as a 'world'. Regardless of what your definition is of Web 2.0, it is clear that people are at the centre of this phenomenon, not technical possibilities. I find this reassuring that with all the technological advances we have made, things are still about real people with real needs and interest. In other words, there is no substitute for human interaction and there will (hopefully) never be.
We are hoping to organize more of these seminars in the future so stay tuned.
